How do I make a favicon?

Ok...it's real easy - especially as we do the converting for you.

  1. Open up your favourite Paint Program. Most computers have a paint program of some description. I use Paint Shop Pro because it has lots of features and I've used it for years so I now have a fairly good knowledge of how to use those features. We don't need anything too fancy so start a new file and open it with a size of 100 x 100 pixels. Remember the finished icon will be displaying at 16 pixels by 16 pixels so don't get to elaborate here...see our favicon for example - we just use the Capital Letter "F" on a red background. Once you got a design that you're happy with save it to your hard drive...and please try and remember where you saved it to. Save it with any name and use .jpg .gif or .bmp format.
  2. Go to our front page and load it in. Where it says: Source Image you should click the button that says Browse and navigate to the folder where you saved your design and click on the file to load it into the form.
  3. Click Generate Favicon
    Hey Presto...seconds later your design is displayed and gives you an idea of how it will look to the viewers of your website.
  4. Happy with the design? If it has lost a lot of detail you may want to start over. At least you'll have a better understanding of what will work and what won't. If everything looks good the click the link to DOWNLOAD your favicon. Save it to the same folder on your hard drive that your website files are located.
